• Rugby Takes Leather Balls

    Denver Barbarians Rugby

… or a Day at the Pitch.

Saturday, October 4 we photographed our first Rugby event.  What an awesome sport (!) at an equaly awesome venue - Dick’s Sporting Good Park - in Denver. The Denver Barbarians DII hosted the Fort Collins Flamingos on the rugby pitch at Dick’s. The Barbos (as they are affectionately called) defeated Fort Collins 43-5. We can’t say we totally understand the rules but we’re learning! Check out our photos here. Give blood, play rugby!

  • A Day Out with Thomas

    Thomas the Tank Engine

Thomas the Tank Engine steamed into Golden on Saturday, September, 13.

The Colorado Railroad Museum is host to “A Day Out with Thomas” the remaining weekends this month - September 20, 21, 27 and 28.

Thomas the Tank Engine has become an icon for children across the country. Someone once referred to Thomas as the Rock Star of the preschool set. The first sighting of Thomas is invariably accompanied by squeals of “It’s Thomas!” As evident in a young Thomas fan blowing his train whistle on our shuttle en route to see Thomas and immediately the bus erupted with squeals of “I hear Thomas, I hear Thomas!” We also overheard two youngsters engaged in a serious conversation - “Do you think this is going to be exciting?” “Yes!”

2008 is The Year of the Great Discovery Tour with numerous activities for kids and their parents. Young and old alike will enjoy a 25-minute ride on Thomas and meet Sir Topham Hatt, controller of the railway. The Thomas & Friends Imagination Station features temporary tattoos, hands-on arts and crafts activities, storytelling, videos, and live music.

Last year over 20,000 people visited Thomas over two, three-day weekends. This year they expect more than 25,000 with the new schedule format - three, two-day weekends.

Very few tickets remain for this popular event. Call 1-866-468-7630 or visit www.ticketweb.com/. For more information and directions, contact the Colorado Railroad Museum at 800-365-6263 or go to www.crrm.org.

As always our photos of this “exciting” event will be posted soon on RacingOnTheRocks!

  • PPIR Lives

Pikes Peak International Raceway is reborn three years after its closing and is now host to regional racing leagues. We photographed a National Auto Sport Association (NASA) amateur sports car race Saturday. Although it’s showing a bit of age, we were thrilled to be back at this wonderful facility. See our event photos.
